It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elisabet who was also lovingly known as Aiti, Mom, Mummo and Liisa. Elisabet was predeceased by the love of her life, Ted (her “sunshine”), in February, 2012. The family takes comfort in knowing they are now together again.
Elisabet was born in Kotka, Finland and immigrated to Ladysmith, BC in 1955 to be with Ted and together build their life in Canada. They were married May 21, 1955.
Elisabet was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her house was always clean and tidy. She baked the most wonderful cookies, pies, pulla, pirakka, bread and cakes. As a cook she created delicious soups and sauces. Most of her recipes have been passed down to her family but none of us ever quite get it exactly right. She knitted and crocheted sweaters, tuques, socks, baby clothes, doilies and blankets for her family and friends. Her “Mummo” blankets will continue to keep us warm and cozy and be a reminder of her love for all of us.
Elisabet is survived by her daughters: Eva (David) Moore and Anita Todd. Her five grandchildren:
Melanie (Eric), Derek, Stuart, Barrett and Everrett. Her two great grandchildren: Violet and James. She also leaves behind numerous relatives in Finland and Sweden and her special friends Helena and Pentti in Ladysmith.
Elisabet spent the last four years as a resident of the Chemainus Health Care Centre. We would like to thank all the staff and volunteers for their wonderful care of Elisabet on both her good and bad days.
A mother’s love is irreplaceable and she will be missed by all of us. She will live forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Elisabet’s Life will take place at a later date.
